What can I expect from a session?
Our newborn sessions are 100% led by baby, to allow us to capture some beautiful pictures of your little one. I will usually ask you to arrive at myself studio at around 10.30am, hopefully baby will be awake when you arrive and we can give them a feed to get them off to sleep, whilst pictures of baby awake are lovely, it is ideal for them to be asleep for the session so I can gently pose them and it helps to ensure they are relaxed.

How long will a session last?
A newborn session could last anywhere between 2-4 hours, it depends how baby is feeling that day! Where possible I will only book one newborn session a day, this allows me to fully allow baby to lead. I want our session to be relaxing and enjoyable, so I don't want you or myself to feel any pressure of having to clock watch, or think we are running out of time. Within that time we allow for feeding, changing, cuddles, whatever it is that baby needs. I have two children myself, so I know things don't always go to plan, or run smoothly!
When should I book my session?
I recommend booking your session after your 20 week scan, I will pencil in a date around 7 days after your expected due date. This secures a slot and then if you contact me when your baby arrives, whether this is early or later we can then provide a firm date of a session.
If you have had your baby and haven't booked, feel free to contact us to see if we have availability and we will do our best to book you in.
What is the best age for a newborn session?
Ideally a session would be held within the first two weeks of baby being born. This is the time that they are most sleepy and flexible to get those beautiful newborn images. We can do a session after these two weeks, but the pictures you get might not be the same, baby may be awake more. Feel free to contact me and we can discuss it further.
How should we prepare for our session?
When you book your session I will send you a guide on what to expect on the day and this will cover how you can prepare for you session. We want to try and aim for baby to be awake and ready for a big feed when you arrive, this will hopefully mean that we can get baby settled and relaxed ready for me to start taking photos.
Will you be handling my baby?
Yes, it will be important for me to build a bond with your baby so I can read their cues and respond appropriately. I want them to feel as safe and as comfortable with me as possible. I have two children of my own, I know how scary it can be handing your beautiful newborn over, but rest assured I am fully trained and will ensure we lead by what baby wants.
What if my baby does not settle?
Babies are unpredictable! So all I will say is don't worry, this is why I like to only book in one newborn session a day, as it gives us flexibility. We can feed baby, comfort baby and make sure they are comfortable and happy before we proceed. The sessions are very relaxed and even if it seems as though it isn't going to plan, I will always be able to get some gorgeous shots.
What if my baby has flaky skin?
Most babies do have flaky skin to some degree, so again don't worry about this. If you wish, it can be softened in post processing editing. I will always discuss with you before editing if you would like anything softening or removing.
Can we have sibling/family photographs in the session?
Absolutely! I would encourage it, we will tend to do these at the end of the session, once we have captured baby on their own. With regards to siblings, I will always ask that they are bought into the studio at the end, if they could be taken to the nearby parks or bought in later on, this is always better as my studio is probably quite boring for a sibling and I don't want them to get too restless and take the focus away from the baby. I appreciate as a mother having the session quite soon after giving birth, you may not feel like you want to be in the photos. It is your decision, however, I think you will look back on the photos with such pride and I enjoy capturing mothers at the start of their journey with their new baby.
My camera phone is so good, why should I pay for professional photos?
I appreciate camera phones have become an incredible tool for capturing the beautiful day to day moments with our children. However, a newborn session is more than just taking photos. It is posing baby safely, delicately moving baby into the right position, getting the right angles, using the best studio lighting to ensure these photographs are something that you can print and have on your wall as a piece of art.
Will the photos be edited?
During our session I will take a lot of photos; different angles, different focus points in the picture. I will then scale the amount of photos down to 20+ for you to pick from in your online gallery. These photos will be edited to remove any unwanted blemishes, alter the colour, mood of the picture and these are what will make up your online gallery.
