Sitter Sessions

A very exciting time at Family Tree Photography, as I have now launched sitter sessions to book through the website!

Sometimes as photographers we can use terminology that we maybe assume everyone understands, so I wanted to explain a little bit more about what is involved with a sitter session and what you can expect if you book one in with me.

What is a "Sitter Session"?

A sitter session is as it sounds and is for babies from around six months old, who can sit up completely unaided. It is a really fun session, as it is slightly different from newborn photography, as your baby can really now start to interact with me and the camera. Their little personalities start to shine through and we can really capture this. I like to make these sessions really relaxed and fun, so we can see your little one giggling and having some fun exploring somewhere new! They are also a great idea for a 1st birthday, as we can use a little wooden cake and some wooden "one" numbers to take some lovely images.

What sort of style will the sitter sessions be?

I like to keep these sessions quite simple, so I have a variety of plain coloured backdrops that we can use- let me know if you have a particular preference. I then have a selection of outfits that I have built up that complement the backdrops, you can of course bring your own outfits as well. I use some simple props - a toddler chair, bubbles, balloons, wooden toys to get some lovely images of your baby having some fun!

How long will the session be?

The sessions will be up to an hour long - depending on baby and how they are feeling on the day, I find this is a good amount of time to keep baby engaged but also get a lovely full variety of shots.

When should I book in a sitter session?

You can book a sitter session as soon as your baby starts sitting up unaided.

How do I book a session?

If you follow this link, you can fill in your details and pay the £40 non refundable session fee and sign my terms and conditions, this will then send you enquiry through to me and I will be in touch to arrange a suitable date and time. https://book.usesession.com/t/KsAmbkYEp

When and where will the session take place?

The sitter sessions will take place Monday-Friday in my studio near Coddington in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. I would usually schedule the session the morning once baby has had their morning sleep and maybe a snack, so they have lots of energy!

What should baby wear?

I do have a selection of outfits, so do not worry if you do not bring anything. For these sessions, I tend to suggest neutral colours, no logos, patterns etc. As against a plain backdrop, simple outfits work better and just make sure the attention is all on your baby. I have had people bring special items of clothing along as well, which is lovely, such as below image the dress was her Mum's christening gown, which had been made out of her Grandmother's wedding dress, it just make the image all that more special.

What should I bring to the session?

As baby is a bit older now and this session is much shorter than a newborn, I would just say the usual bits! Some snacks and milk, we can take a break anytime you need if baby is getting hungry. Then also bring along any outfits or special teddies etc that you might like in the images.

What if my baby is crying/unhappy?

Firstly, please do not panic if this happens! It happens a lot, especially as they often fall asleep in the car on the way and then you wake them up and they are somewhere new. I am a mother myself and I know it can take a while for them to come round when they wake up, so we can take it at a slow pace and when they are ready we can get started.

How many images will you take?

For each sessions I would say I take around 200-300 images, I will often take various images of the same set up and pose, as it might look slightly better from one angle and it just means I have more options if baby blinks, or decides to cheekily stick their tongue out! I will then go through and select the best ones of each pose, these will then be fully edited and presented to you in your online gallery. You can expect to receive 20+ fully edited final images.

Will you share images on social media?

I love to be able to share images on Facebook, Instagram and my website, as I love to share the gorgeous sessions, especially with sitter sessions we get some really funny and cute images. If you would prefer for me not to do this please let me know!

So I think that covers everything, please get in touch if you have any other questions! If you are looking for some timeless and beautiful images of your baby in Nottinghamshire, please get in touch and we can get you booked in!
