Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I wanted to start a blog to give a behind the scenes look at the journey I am going on setting up my family photography business. I am still very much in the early stages of setting up Family Tree Photography and I am so excited for 2022, I will have lots of new sessions launching and I can't wait to meet all of my lovely families.
So I will start by introducing myself. My name is Simona and I have lived in Newark, Nottinghamshire for nearly 10 years. I live here with my husband Marc and our two children James who is four and Isla who is two. They keep us very busy, but their cheeky little smiles are the best thing in the world!
I have always had a love of photography and photos, I think it is so important to capture memories and be able to look back in years to come at beautiful photographs. It was after my daughter Isla was born that I started to get a real urge to turn my passion into a career. But a couple of months later...the dreaded covid hit! Whilst this meant setting up a business wasn't something I could do immediately, it gave me time to learn and practice. We have always had a DSLR camera and over the years I have learnt how to use it. I used the time in lockdown to learn and practice as much as I could. My son James has become a very good model for me - although, he often required bribing with food! I also went on a two day newborn training course with a fantastic trainer, I wanted to know how to safely conduct a newborn session; when I am handling and photographing a baby, I want parents to have utter trust that I am confident and capable in what I am doing.
As we moved towards the end of 2021 I was at a point where I was ready to set up the business. Coming up with a name for the business was quite tricky, but Family Tree Photography has a nice meaning for me. When James was younger, we used to watch Stickman. If you are not familiar with Stickman it is a book by Julia Donaldson about a little stick family, and the Daddy stick gets lost on an adventure and ends up quite far away from home. The stick family call home the "Family Tree" James always used to say "What time will we be home to the Family Tree?" To me it meant home, somewhere where you feel safe and happy, so that is where the name came from!
I have started by doing newborn shoots and have done some special Christmas sessions, which I had so much fun doing. A lot of feedback I had at my Christmas sessions was just how much fun the kids had and that the parents hadn't been to such a fun photoshoot before. That is what I want to achieve, capturing genuine smiles and laughter from children, I got absolutely covered in fake snow and had snowballs pelted at me, but we all had a great time and that is what matters the most to me!
Going forward I want to offer newborn, maternity, sitter sessions and special seasonal sessions throughout the year. I have lots of ideas, so keep an eye out!
I am looking forward to sharing my journey with you.
